AMA and AHA attorneys filed the complaint against the Biden administration Thursday in the D.C. district court. 

Absent congressional action, the American College of Radiology said such reductions would have threatened access to imaging and deepened disparities. 

The complaint seeks to amend the independent dispute resolution process for unexpected bills that purportedly "unfairly" benefits insurance companies.

The effort is focused on outpatient imaging centers and should bring more consistency to cancer treatment and therapy.

“A pandemic is not the time to be cutting access to doctors for patients on Medicare,” said Rep. Kim Schrier, MD, D-Wash. 

According to the AHA, the No Surprises Act will "make a truly meaningful difference" to millions of patients. Physicians, on the other hand, have shared significant concerns about the legislation. 

Advocates have said these changes would necessitate “massive” pay reductions, with interventional radiologists and radiation oncologists bearing the brunt. 

The college praised the recent reimbursement decision but noted many of its recommendations have yet to be incorporated into the national coverage determination draft document.
