Ultrasound

Ultrasound, also referred to as sonography or diagnostic ultrasound, uses high-frequency sound waves to visualize soft tissue. Ultrasounds are frequently ordered to measure fetal anatomy during pregnancy, check for blood clots and to guide needle biopsy procedures of the breast, abdomen and pelvis. The imaging modality does not use any radiation to create images. Find news specific to cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography).

AISAP, an Israeli healthcare technology company focused on using artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance medical imaging results, has gained U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its new point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) software platform, AISAP Cardio.

Ultrasound imaging startup exits ‘stealth’ mode with $4M Department of Defense contract

Maui Imaging says its product can produce images that are a "cross between ultrasound and CT" without the need for ionizing radiation.

New IR procedure for cubital tunnel syndrome

New IR procedure could be a viable alternative to surgery for cubital tunnel syndrome

The technique, which takes around 20 minutes to complete, uses ultrasound guidance to target and release Osborne's ligament with a specialized thread.

Siemens Healthineers has gained U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for Acuson Origin, its new cardiovascular ultrasound system featuring advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The Acuson Origin represents a significant update from the prior Siemens Healthineers cardiovascular ultrasound system, the Acuson SC2000.

Siemens Healthineers gains FDA clearance for new AI-powered cardiovascular ultrasound system

The Acuson Origin system includes advanced AI algorithms designed to assist users with the treatment of diagnostic, structural heart, vascular, electrophysiological and pediatric patients. It also comes packaged with a new 4D ICE catheter capable of multiplanar reconstruction imaging with or without the use of an electrocardiogram.

Generative AI explains echo results to heart patients

Researchers used OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology to build 100 patient-friendly echo reports, evaluating each one for accuracy, relevance and understandability. The AI reports passed the test with flying colors.

As the pregnancy advances, the embryo is easier to see, and accurate measurements can be obtained with transabdominal ultrasound. A crown-rump length (CRL) measurement. This ultrasound scan shows the CRL, which is the average of discrete fetal measurements from the tip of the head end to the tip of the rump end in the midsagittal plane of the embryo. This is highly accurate for pregnancy dating. Images courtesy of RSNA

1 day of training with AI makes novice sonographers as accurate as experts in gestational measurements

This sort of tool could be a game changer for prenatal care in low resource settings, authors of a new paper published in JAMA suggest.
