Authors of a new editorial recently highlighted the increased risk of developing breast cancer that female healthcare workers face due to their routine exposure to ionizing radiation.

The group hopes its members can increase congressional support of a new bill introduced in the House. 

Since being approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2011, DBT has become the most common method for breast cancer screening, and as of September 2022, 84% of all U.S. mammography screening facilities housed DBT units. 

Radiology makes up the vast majority of FDA-cleared AI algorithms, but with minimal or no reimbursement, hospital administrators may ask whether AI’s value justifies its expense.

Three members of the specialty recently offered advice to leaders navigating this issue in their organization. 

In a study that included hundreds of radiologist recommendations for additional imaging, there was a threefold increase in follow-up adherence when radiologists utilized a voluntary closed-loop communication tool that required structured recommendations. 

An inordinate number of patients with metallic hardware were receiving inappropriate MRIs without a key sequence to reduce related artifacts.
