One out of every seven radiologist follow-up recommendations contained in imaging reports is not carried out, experts recently reported in JAMA Network Open.

Better risk stratification can improve clinical decision making and better outcomes, experts involved in the study explained in EJR.

Reviewing a 20-month run with a radiologist-to-technologist communications tool, researchers have found minor problems with image quality 10 times more common than patient callbacks for repeat imaging.

The model was externally validated using more than 1,500 radiographs with real-world incidence of critically misplaced tubes. 

Using CBIRS decreased interpretation times despite the radiologists who utilized them having to review the additional information the system provided.

The news comes as BA.5 has become the dominant subvariant in the United States. Cases, hospitalizations and deaths are all on the rise.
