The American College of Cardiology (ACC) this week published a report card on highlighting the excess cardiovascular mortality among Black Americans between 2000-2022.[1] The ACC said it highlights the "persistent and tragic inequities" in cardiovascular care and outlines the years of life lost to the Black community because of their higher cardiovascular disease death rates. #healthdisparities

“Measuring healthcare spending by race and ethnicity is important for understanding patterns in utilization and treatment,” researchers said.

LAAO outcomes significantly worse among women

In-hospital complications are more common among women who undergo LAAO than men. However, according to a new study in JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, men and women have similar long-term outcomes.

Researchers tracked data from more than 49,000 patients who underwent LAAO from January 2016 to June 2019.
