Philips has secured U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for EchoNavigator R5.0 with DeviceGuide, the company’s artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled software for mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (M-TEER).

Philips worked closely with Edwards Lifesciences to develop the new software.

XCath Robotics, a Houston-based medical robotics company, announced the successful completion of the world’s first telerobotic stroke operation of its kind. Neurosurgeon Vitor Mendes Pereira, MD, chair of advanced neurovascular interventions at the University of Toronto, used the XCath Iris Surgical Robotic System to perform the historic procedure.

Neurosurgeon Vitor Mendes Pereira, MD, was in Santiago, Panama, but his patient was in Panama City. "It is the highlight of my career to be involved in this historic achievement," Pereira said.

Gadolinium-153, or Gd-153, is routinely used to calibrate nuclear imaging equipment. It has been in short supply since 2023 when global distribution of the radioisotope came to a halt.

Cardiologist Heart Doctor Tablet Technology

Advancements in radiofrequency (RF) catheter ablation technology have been incremental over the past 30 years in efforts to improve safety, procedural efficiency and patient outcomes. While some newer technologies have gained a lot of attention in electrophysiology (EP) over the past several years, RF remains the solid frontline treatment.

Breast arterial calcifications (BACs) identified on screening mammograms may help identify women who face a heightened risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD), according to a new analysis published in Clinical Imaging.

Breast artery calcifications are already visible when radiologists review mammograms, but nothing typically happens with them. Researchers aimed to see if AI could help translate those findings into an easy-to-understand cardiovascular risk score.

Biosense Electrophysiology

Most advancements in electrophysiology technology are small and incremental, but the experts at Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute in Austin, TX, were quick to see distinct advantages when they started using the latest iteration of radio frequency ablation, the QDOT MICRO™ Catheter.
